PRR East Altoona Deadline, c. 1957
Description:
Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is a pair of Pennsylvania Railroad "T" Class (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" steam locomotives that have been deadlined in preparation for scrapping. The smoke in the sky betrays the presence of a working steamer just West of the Tipple. It's a sight seen here since 1850 ~ but it'll soon disappear forever, along with the "Age of Steam."
