Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6434, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired February of 1960 after just 17 years of revenue service. It's rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Roy Healey Collection; #4 of 9. |
