Built by Baldwin in January of 1943 (serial #234), this massive and powerful locomotive was a decided advantage when moving long strings of loaded iron ore cars to Duluth and Twin Harbor ports. The 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotive lasted nearly 19 years in heavy service until retirement and scrapping in 1962. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb.
