SLSF 4-6-4 #1065 - St Louis-San Francisco |
Description: |
This St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1065 looks like it just stepped out of the SLSF West Springfield Shops after its rebuild. The loco started out as a 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 but starting in 1937 the West Springfield Shops rebuilt the last class of 4-6-2's into more powerful 4-6-4's. Note the "semi-streamlined" wide side valance matched to the painted tender. An inexpensive method of modernizing! The loco only served about twelve years before dieselization relegated it to the scrapper's torch in January of 1952. Hudson.specs - serial #45511, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
