12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2252, #2286, and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2252 and #2286 are EF-25's built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train past the Altoona Passenger Station on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The time is approximately 2:00 A.M. |

PRR 2433, AF-25, 1965 |

Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Pictured at the right is a train consisting of 110 empty hoppers ~ headed by Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9808 ~ on its way up the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains; the N-5 cabin car is #477202. Pictured at the left (L to R) are PRR engines #2433, #2239, #2362, and #2286. #2433 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2239 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2362 and #2286 are EF-25's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2362 was built in March of 1965, but #2286 was built in June of 1964. They've come down the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a 99-car merchandise freight train and are on their way to the Enola Yards. Station. Here is the first of two original photos that I took near the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2424, a "U Boat" whose road number is not recorded, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train two tracks over is the mail/express train headed by PRR engine #5900; it is stopped for a crew change. The Passenger Station is visible on the far right, adjacent to the parking lots filled with cars belonging to merry Christmas shoppers. |

Station. Here is the second of two original photos that I took near the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2424, a "U Boat" whose road number is not recorded, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are heading East toward the Enola Yards with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train two tracks over is the mail/express train headed by PRR engine #5900; it is stopped under the 12th Street Bridge. Also visible are the Railway Express Office, PRR ES-10 switcher #9174, the 7th Street Bridge, and Brush Mountain in the far distance. |
