Former Amtrak coach 7612 had been built by Budd in 1951 as Pennsylvania Railroad 1593, one of 32 66-seat coaches with 14-seat smoking sections for service on the CONGRESSIONAL LIMITED and the SENATOR. It retained its original number on the Penn Central 1593 and was assigned Amtrak 7423 in 1976; but it retained its PRR/PC number until it was remodeled into high-capacity HEP CLOCKER car 7612 in November 1981. Amtrak sold the car to the Panarail Tourism Co. in 2000 and its tread brake trucks replaced the disc brake trucks under a 7000-series handicap accessible car that went to Panama. |
