Southern Railway Extra 6802 South – a train of tank cars behind an A-B-A set of FT units – was crossing the Louisville & Nashville at N.E. TOWER about one mile away from its destination at the railroad's PRESS STREET YARD in New Orleans. This view was looking north along the L&N main line and the bridge in the foreground crossed the Peoples Avenue drainage canal. The tower would soon be replaced with a new brick structure, which would remain in operation until September 1990. (approximate day of photo) |
