Photo Caption: "Alco RSD-7 #8607, 2400-hp, at Altoona, Pa." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8607, an APS-24MS built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1955 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. Partially visible in the middle distance is a trio of ALCo AS-18AM engines, awaiting their next pusher run up "The Mountain" to Gallitzin and back. Beyond them is the marshaling yard for the PRR's Erecting & Machine Shop that's stocked with FM's, "GEEP's," freight and passenger "Sharks," even a GE 44-tonner or two!
