Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken just West of SLOPE Tower in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6431, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. It's passing under four-track Signal Bridge #2373/4 with a mixed-cargo freight train bound for Altoona and points East. Roy Healey Collection; #9 of 9. |
