A UP coal train rests on the CN siding west of Hwy. GG at Mentone, WI, or Whitt, WI, in the Town of Cranmoor, Wood Co., WI, on 4 Jul. '17. The main line is former MILW, but was operated jointly by MILW and C&NW for some time according to some old maps. The location is listed as Mentone on some older maps, but is listed as Whitt on CN's station map (North Whitt according to the signal relay case). The old siding at Mentone was on the other side of the road (behind me). According to information found on trainweb.org, the current siding was built ca. '10 to hold UP coal trains waiting to head to the power plant at Weston, WI. |
