When this picture was taken, 4 IC passenger trains were stopping here daily - the Louisiane (north and south), the Southern Express (south) and the Creole (north). IC passenger train, Chickasaw, also had instructions in the timetable during this time to "reduce speed to 35 MPH to dispatch US mail." The last passenger train to stop here was the Mid-American on December 5, 1970. This station closed as a train order office sometime between 1971 and 1975. There was a switcher based out of here until sometime in the 1980's. Picture taken sometime in June of 1966. Today, the southbound main (which is the track closest to the depot) is gone, along with the brick platform, train order hoops, order board, and the Illinois Central 100 Year commemorative plaques. The depot is now privately owned. |
