Last of the Lehigh  Contributor's Pick!
The LV west of Van Etten Jct was abandoned almost wholesale shortly after CR start up-just too many routes to Buffalo-and really, the line west of Allentown was largely a ghost line, with just a few locals at Coxton, and one train each way daily covering what remained of the line as far as Sayre. One segment west of Sayre that stayed active was the line to Ithaca, which hosted several coal trains each week to the NYSEG generating station at Ludlowville, and to a Cargill salt mine. The salt was occasionally combined with the coal, but often not, and ran as WAIT2 west of Sayre. Here we see the WAIT2 near Van Etten, en route to the Cargill mine.
