FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in October of 1950. Photo Caption: "Double 2-10-0 pushers heaving 75-car coal train over Gallitzin Summit after coming up from Johnstown." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4598, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during September of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in June of 1943, and retired in August of 1952 after 29 years of faithful service. The road number of the N-5 cabin car pictured at the right is not recorded. Wave to the Engineman! This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-31). (Photo taken 21 October 1950) |
