Altoona Test Plant, 1973
Vistas. Here is an original photo that I took of the former Pennsylvania Railroad Test Plant building in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during June of 1973 ~ not too long before it was demolished. One of the things that made the PRR the "Standard Railroad of the World" was its long-standing, in-house capacity to design, experiment, and test ~ much of which happened in this building and the locomotive dynamometer facility next to it. When the PRR stopped designing, experimenting, and testing . . . well, you know what happened then.
