On the Amtrak Northeast Corridor from Boston, Ma. to Washington, D.C. passenger trains are equipped with cab signals----engineer is aware of the block condition ahead at all times. In areas I dispatched on the Shoreline from Kingston, R.I. to New Haven, Ct. we ran under "cab, no wayside" signal rules. I was a new dispatcher when the company was revamping the whole railroad, and was removing wayside signals for cost savings, and relying strictly on cab signals.......
