Burlington Northern Railroad SD7 6052 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as CB&Q SD7 404 in November 1952 (c/n 17400) on EMD Order 5140, it became BN 6052 and was retired in August 1983. This was one of 12 lightweight SD7's built for the Burlington for use on branch lines that could not support heavier locomotives. Although heavier than a GP7, it distributed the weight across two more axles, thus presenting a lighter load per axle to the rails. |
