A note on the back of the photo states "Action shot of Local #6 for St Louis." Originally built by Baldwin in 1917 as a 4-6-2 Pacific, the SLSF West Springfield Shops in 1937 undertook the task of converting the 1060 class into more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons. Note the lack of the wide side valence that first appeared on the rebuilds. By this time it was removed on several HudsonsAfter serving nearly 15 years as a Hudson, it met with the scrapper's torch in January of 1952, a casuality of the dieselization. Hudson specs - serial #45466, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson took the action shot four miles from Springfield, MO. |
