Title:
PRR 949, K-4S, 1949
Description:
FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania. Photo Caption: "Two K-4's and a T-1 on a 28-car express. (T-1 is hidden by smoke and shadow.) November 8, 1949." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #949, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918 and retired in November of 1951 after 33 years of faithful service. This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-50).
