CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4952
Title:  CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4952
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4952 at Centralia, Illinois on May 12, 1956, photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. This might be a good photo to explain (as I understand it) the Elesco Feed Water System, named for the initials in the manufacturer's name, the Locomotive Superheater Compaany, LSCo. The water in the tender was piped up in the diagonal pipe below the cab to the pump above the rear driver, then pumped up to the cylindrical device located between the headight and stack. There coiled pipes of cold tender water would pass through a chamber of hot steam, pre-heating and routing the heated tender water through the check valve below the sand dome.
