Union Pacific "Golden Spike" ceremony
Title:  Union Pacific "Golden Spike" ceremony
Description:  Union Pacific has their "Golden Spike" ceremony in Odgen, Utah, May 9, 2019. "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 and "Living Legend" 4-8-4 # 844! UP ordered 25 "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941, last steamed in 1959. It eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. 844 was UP's last steam locomotive purchased in 1944 and has never been retired and also was converted to run with oil. "Spike 150 Train"
Title:  "Spike 150 Train"
Description:  The "Spike 150 Train" heads east through the Echo Canyon, Utah, on its way to Evanston, Wyoming, May 12, 2019. We luckily got ahead of this train by driving down Echo Canyon Road thanks to finding a good route on my newly purchased Utah DeLorme atlas. We got ahead of the crowd from Echo, UT going east. People passed us around "Blind Curves!!!!" I used my "MA" motor drive out the rear window! "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 leads the train! UP ordered twenty five "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. Title:  The crowd chases its prey
Description:  This is just a oittle taste of the crowds that followed Big Boy on the highway. I'm sure the driver of the Knight Transportation truck was wondering what the hell was going on.

"Spike 150 Train"
Title:  "Spike 150 Train"
Description:  The "Spike 150 Train" heads east by the rest area at Weber Canyon, Utah, May 12, 2019. "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 and "Living Legend" 4-8-4 # 844 pull the train! UP ordered twenty five of "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941. 4014 last steamed in 1959 and eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. 844 was UPs last steam locomotive purchased in 1944 and has never been retired and also was converted to run with oil. (Canon AE-1 Program 35mm camera, Fuji C200 print film)
