Because when they shove out of the transfer, he has to ride the cut out onto the main. Once they get to Lambert, he has to ride up the eastbound to Bridge 16 to back into National Lime & Stone. He spends a lot of time on the rear hopper each day. Also, I left the pole on the right in the image on purpose, it used to have the tell tales mounted on it for when EL yard crews were shoving up to spot cars downtown. Since we often rode the top of the cars, the tell tales would warn us of the approaching Exchange St bridge. |
