Album Info:Here is a four-page article by Mr. William Moedinger Jr., entitled "From Baltimore To Harrisburg On The PRR." It was published originally in the August 1944 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 38-41. "The line is the 83-mile Harrisburg-Baltimore portion of the Northern Central Railway, operated under a 999-year lease by the Pennsy as a part of its Maryland Division." Description:  Here is page one of a four-page article by William Moedinger Jr., entitled "From Baltimore To Harrisburg On The PRR." It was published originally in the August 1944 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 38. Photo Caption: "The Washington section of the 'Liberty Limited' is really double-heading, but the Consolidation helper completely hides the K-4 Pacific road engine." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3479, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata during July of 1913 and retired in October of 1952 after 39 years of faithful service. In this context, they're pulling the Baltimore/Washington-bound section of the "Liberty Limited" through Freeland, Maryland.

Description:  Here is page two of a four-page article by William Moedinger Jr., entitled "From Baltimore To Harrisburg On The PRR." It was published originally in the August 1944 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 39. Photo Caption: "The tandem K-4's are pulling the 'St. Louisan.' Because of the curves and grades, average speed over this line is slower than over the Pittsburgh Division, which hurdles the Alleghenies." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5385, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1924 and retired in June of 1948 after 24 years of faithful service.

Photo Caption: "The two locomotives, a Pacific and a Mikado, on the heavy 'St. Louisian' at the far left are on the last lap of the climb to the summit near New Freedom." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5442, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in February of 1949 after 22 years of faithful service.

Description:  Here is page four of a four-page article by William Moedinger Jr., entitled "From Baltimore To Harrisburg On The PRR." It was published originally in the August 1944 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 41. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "The winding train above is almost at the summit, which is exactly under the overhead highway bridge on which the photographer is standing." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3771, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1920 and scrapped in April of 1947 after it was involved in the "Red Arrow" wreck. Notable here is Linn H. Westcott's map of the route between Baltimore and Harrisburg.

Description:  Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Timonium, Maryland, on 9 June 1938. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5436 and #5419. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #5436 was constructed in March of 1927 and retired in April of 1948, while #5419 was built in February of 1927 and retired in March of 1949. On #5436, note the modified cylinders and lack of valve gear. Gary Mittner Collection.

PRR 5829, BP-60, 1948
Title:  PRR 5829, BP-60, 1948
Description:  Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Timonium, Maryland, in May of 1948. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5829 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both are BP-60's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60 passenger engines rated at 3,000 horsepower each, but later regeared and reclassified as 2,250 horsepower BH-50's for freight and helper service only. #5829 was constructed in December of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 16 years of revenue service. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' with ten-car passenger train #524.
